A common shorthand for computational resources or computing power used for AI is compute. In this section, we will discuss how compute governance enables AI governance.

Answer:

Compute is indispensable for developing and deploying AIs. Restricting access to compute allows control over what AIs are created and used.

Why is compute more governable than other resources needed for AI like data and algorithms?

Answer:

‍Compute is physical, excludable, and quantifiable which allows it to be tracked, restricted, and measured. Data and algorithms lack these characteristics to the same degree.

Answer:
