App. E: Evolutionary Game Theory

In the Collective Action Problems chapter, we discussed game theory by exploring the Prisoner's Dilemma, a simple game that involves two agents who interact only once. In this appendix we provide an overview of a more sophisticated version of game theory where strategies adopted by agents can evolve over time. Results observed in this set-up are relevant to AI given the potential evolutionary pressures that may be operating on AI developers and AI systems themselves.
