CAIS Stipend Terms and Conditions

Stipend payments cannot be made to individuals residing in China, India, Russia, Somalia, Iran, Cuba, Sudan, Syria, North Korea, or any countries we are prohibited from transferring funds to under the U.S. economic and trade sanctions enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). Additionally, individuals on U.S. terrorist lists or those subject to said sanctions are not eligible to receive stipend payment. Individuals living in the aforementioned countries are still allowed to participate in the program. The legality of accepting the stipend in his or her country is the responsibility of the individual. All taxes are the responsibility of the individuals. International stipend recipients are subject to a 30% tax withholding in line with US tax regulation, unless there exists a tax treaty stating otherwise. Individuals must be over the age of 18.

The program organizers reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to request proof of eligibility from entrants and to disqualify any entrant who does not meet the eligibility criteria, fails to provide the required documentation, does not comply with these Terms and Conditions, engages in fraudulent or illegal activity, or otherwise compromises the integrity of the contest. The program organizers shall not be liable for any failure or delay in transferring stipend payments or other performance under these Terms and Conditions arising out of a cause beyond their control, including, but not limited to, acts of God, natural disasters, pandemics, government actions, or other force majeure events, and individuals agree that the program organizers shall not be liable to individuals for any type of damages that arise out of or are related to the program and stipend.

We reserve the right to increase or decrease the number of stipends, as well as increase or decrease the size of stipends at any time. We reserve the right to distribute these stipends at any time or with our prudent judgment. We also reserve the right to alter these Terms and Conditions at any time. By participating, individuals agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the sponsor, program organizers, and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents, and representatives from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from or related to their participation.

The program organizers will collect and use personal information in accordance with their privacy policy. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to any choice or conflict of law provision or rule. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms and Conditions or the contest shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal and state courts located in San Francisco County, California, and entrants hereby consent to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.
